Corrosion Assessment
Risk Based Inspection (RBI) is a common inspection strategy nowadays in any operating plant. Risk is a product of probability of failure to its consequence. Probability of Failure (PoF) assessment involves Corrosion Assessment which identify right active damage and cracking mechanism, assigning appropriate damage rates and cracking severity. Corrosion loops are formed comprising piping and equipment with similar operating conditions, same material of construction and same damage mechanism. Proper Corrosion Assessment is a pre-requisite for RBI; hence the Corrosion Assessment shall be performed by qualified and experienced professional so that right damage mechanisms are identified. This will result in achieving precise and optimal risk-based inspection plan.
Corrosion Assessment involve identifying the following:
- Material of construction of piping and equipment,
- Operating conditions such as temperature, pressure etc,
- Details about coating and insulation,
- Corrodents in process and utility fluid,
- Construction of corrosion loops comprising piping and equipment with similar operating conditions, same material of construction and same damage mechanism,
- Developing a corrosion loop description for each individual corrosion loop detailing the corrosion group number/name, material of construction, corrosion loop description, process description, active and potential internal/external damage mechanism, damage rates and additional remarks, if any.
We have performed successfully Corrosion Assessment for offshore, refinery, petrochemical and fertilizer projects.
